Links in the third column are to maps displaying tree locations. Links in brackets are to  Multimap ; normal links are to specific Cambridge tree maps, the second column containing the abbreviation(s) used for the tree on the map.

Sophora japonica  (Pagoda Tree)PgA medium-sized tree towards the NE corner of Lammas Land and several young trees on the W side of the paddling pool; large street trees in several places including George IV Street [map], Adkins Corner on the NE side of the junction of Perne Road and Cherry Hinton Road [map], and the E side of Walpole Road [map]
Sophora tetraptera  (Kowhai) A young tree on the E side of Free School Lane just at the end of the roadway [map]
Sorbus ‘Joseph Rock’  (Joseph Rock's Rowan)JRA common street and garden tree: there is a small one near the SW corner of Mill Road Cemetery
Sorbus aria  (Common Whitebeam)WL WMThe type tree is seldom planted: the cultivars are common as street trees; there is a ‘Lutescens’ at the NE corner of the tennis courts on Lammas Land, and several at the N end of De Freville Avenue [map]; there are two ‘Majestica’ on Quayside on the E side of Bridge Street in the City Centre
Sorbus aucuparia  (Common Rowan) A common street and garden tree: there are a couple on Christ's Pieces close to the crossing to the Grafton Centre; cultivars are common but can be hard to specify - there appears to be a Cut-leaved Rowan (‘Asplenifolia’) on the E side of Carlton Way 100m N of Metcalfe Road [map], and there is a Golden-fruited Rowan (‘Fructu Luteo’) at the NW corner of Midsummer Common
Sorbus cashmiriana  (Kashmir Rowan)KRThere are three on the E side of the bridge approach on Victoria Avenue, N of Midsummer Common
Sorbus commixta  (Japanese Rowan) A common street tree, often as the cultivar ‘Embley’: e.g. on the E side of Warkworth Street beside Parkside Police Station [map]
Sorbus glabrescens  (Hubei Rowan) Several street trees on Brimley Road [map], intermixed with S.commixta and S.thuringiaca
Sorbus intermedia  (Swedish Whitebeam)SwA common street tree: there are several with the Double Geans at the SW corner of Lammas Land; some at the junction of Gilbert Road and Histon Road [map] and five large ones at the far end of Hurrell Road [map]
Sorbus thuringiaca  (Bastard Service) A common street tree in the ‘Fastigiata’ form, e.g. along the S side of Brimley Road [map], interspersed with rowans
Sorbus torminalis  (Wild Service) A common street tree, e.g. on the E side of Carlton Way, 80m N of the junction with Gilbert Road [map]; there is a larger tree in Chesterton churchyard, across the footpath from the church [map]
Sorbus vilmorinii  (Vilmorin's Rowan)VRAn occasional street tree, e.g. on the N side of Fanshawe Road at the junction with the footpath to Coleridge Recreation Ground [map]; there are also a couple behind the Kashmir Rowans across Victoria Avenue bridge from Midsummer Common
