Sorbus aria (Common Whitebeam) | WL WM | The type tree is seldom planted: the cultivars are common as street trees; there is a ‘Lutescens’ at the NE corner of the tennis courts on Lammas Land, and several at the N end of De Freville Avenue [map]; there are two ‘Majestica’ on Quayside on the E side of Bridge Street in the City Centre |
Sorbus aucuparia (Common Rowan) | A common street and garden tree: there are a couple on Christ's Pieces close to the crossing to the Grafton Centre; cultivars are common but can be hard to specify - there appears to be a Cut-leaved Rowan (‘Asplenifolia’) on the E side of Carlton Way 100m N of Metcalfe Road [map], and there is a Golden-fruited Rowan (‘Fructu Luteo’) at the NW corner of Midsummer Common | |
