Trees of Alexandra Gardens, New Chesterton, Cambridge
Surrounded by large London Planes [P], the interior of the gardens include a number of smaller trees of interest: a Tibetan Cherry [TC] with its rather garish bark; a fine Great White Cherry [GWC] beside the bowling green, a fine sight in flower in March; and a Chinese Juniper [CJ]. Sadly, the Claret Ashes, at around fifty years of age the oldest in Cambridge, were starting to drop branches and had to be felled in 2006; several more trees marked on the map got the chop in 2007.
