Sequoiadendron giganteum — Giant Sequoia
A frequent and conspicuous mid-19th century introduction from the west coast of America.
Cone-shaped young trees mature to give the unmistakeable very tall adult tree. The evergreen leaves form long stiff threads and the curved shoots rise towards their ends. The bark is red and springy. Smallish cones are produced, like a pine cone with bloated scales.
‘Pendulum’ is a rare weeping form that grows anywhere but upwards.
