Salix alba — White Willow
A native tree with very pale foliage, common by rivers.
The narrow alternate leaves are smaller than those of Crack Willow and are silky below, and also initially above. The shoots and buds are hairy. Male catkins are yellow.
var. sericea (Silver Willow) is a selection with leaves which remain silky above, and with buds which are smaller and stubbier.
Coral-bark Willows include a number of cultivars with bright orange shoots in winter.
