Cercis siliquastrum — Judas Tree
An early introduction from the Near East, widely grown.
The alternate rounded leaves are untoothed. The buds are tiny and surrounded by the leaf scar, and often overshadowed by the flower buds. Purple flowers are produced in late spring, often with some directly on the branches and trunk.
