Rhus typhina — Stag's-horn Sumach
A very common early-17th century introduction.
The alternate pinnate leaves have pointed, toothed leaflets. The shoots are hairy with tiny buds embedded among the hairs. The yellowish flowers give rise to persistent reddish fruit like dumpy, furry candles.
‘Dissecta’ is an infrequent cultivar with feathery foliage.
