Picea abies — Norway Spruce
A common very early introduction, widely grown in plantations and in gardens; the traditional Christmas tree.
The needles are short and four-sided and arise from the shoots on the little ‘pegs’ characteristic of spruces. Male flowers are bright pinkish-purple. The cones are long and pendent.
