Malus tschonoskii — Pillar Apple
A very common street tree, introduced from Japan at the end of the 19th century.
A fastigiate species, with large toothed, ovoid, alternate leaves. Buds are fat and hair-fringed. Small flowers give rise to small apples are produced which persist over winter.
