Diospyros lotus — Date-plum
An uncommon introduction in the same genus as Persimmon (D.virginiana) and Chinese Persimmon (D.kaki), whose fruit is a little more familiar.
The alternate leaves are untoothed and shiny. Four-petalled flowers are produced in summer and give rise to date-plums (which do not ripen in the UK).
