Acacia dealbata — Mimosa
Introduced from Australia in the early 19th century and frequent in milder areas. A member of the Leguminosae (pea) family, and one of the very few species that flower in the middle of winter.
A rather untidy tree, with distinctive foliage, the alternate evergreen leaves being doubly pinnate, with very tiny individual leaflets. Creamy flower buds stand proud from the leaves from late autumn, and open in January/February as brilliant yellow strings of delicate flowers.
